Who We Are &
What We Do
Walter & May Reuther Senior Services
(RSS) celebrated its 50th year of service in 2003 and marked the occasion with a name change (formerly Metropolitan Retiree Service Center). Reuther Senior Services provides a critical social support system directed at maintaining and improving the quality of life for the community’s
older adults. A wide array of programs and services assist them in living independently in their own homes as long as possible.

The
ultimate goal is to promote independence and reduce isolation of older adults. Under the leadership of Walter P. Reuther and others within the United Auto Workers, Reuther Senior Services was founded in 1953 as a social program to meet the needs of retirees - not just autoworkers, but all retired men and women - throughout the Detroit area.
The program has expanded a social program by providing educational workshops, referred services and phone resource services. The program provides in-home chores and personal care services. Transportation is provided to the center as well as to medical appointments and essential needs appointments.
