Matrix Human Services, built on history and heritage, provides human services to the Metropolitan Detroit community, its families and individuals through diverse and efficient programs unified by shared management support systems

Matrix Family Services Center

The Matrix Family Services Center provides a wide range of supportive services to all of Detroit’s Head Start programs and their families. This includes employment readiness workshops, computer instruction classes, Family Literacy, GED/ABE classes and Legal Aid Clinics. Located at the Mt. Zion Community Center, the Matrix Family Services Center provides access to other services through collaborative efforts with Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, Health Service Technical Assistance, Community Based Projects, and YMCA Minority Achievers.

Computer Technology Center

The goal of the Computer Technology Center is to provide Head Start families and staff with the necessary training, experience, motivation and VISION that will move Head Start families towards self-sufficiency in a society dependent upon technology. Priority for class enrollment is given to Head Start families and staff. There is no charge for computer training. Classes are limited to eight students for maximum attention and instruction.

Fatherhood Initiative

The Detroit Fatherhood Initiative is dedicated to engaging fathers of the Head Start children in a positive way in their child’s education and life. The Fatherhood Initiative nurtures meaningful connections between children and their fathers, and is focused on changing the social challenges of children without fathers.

We are focused on changing the social challenges of children without fathers. These numbers clearly demonstrate fathers are important to building strong families and communities:

  • 85% of all youth sitting in prisons grew up in fatherless homes

  • 71% of all high school dropouts come from fatherless homes

  • 85% of all youth who exhibit behavioral disorders come from fatherless homes

Upgrading the general quality of life in the community requires reconnecting fathers to their children in a way that enables those children to successfully reach their fullest potential.
