Who We Are
Casa Maria Family Services, a program of Matrix Human Services, is a community-based agency that seeks to strengthen families by providing healthy alternatives for young people, and by promoting stability, and self-sufficiency, in the citizens of Southwest Detroit.
Casa Maria serves a diverse community and continues to modify and improve the services and programs offered in order to meet the changing needs of today’s family. Through diverse partnerships and community development, Casa Maria Family Services continues to impact the lives of Detroit residents, through a never-ending commitment to children.
The Major Goals of Casa Maria Family Services are:
-
To provide a caring and nurturing environment, for the young children of Detroit, as a positive alternative to the streets;
-
To provide young children with after-school programs that enrich their lives and encourage academic, athletic and artistic achievement;
-
To give children guidance in developing long-term decision-making skills that will improve their quality of life.
Studies show that quality after school programs help keep kids out of trouble. Children who participate in
Casa Maria's programs are one-third less likely to become a teen parent, more than twice as likely to stay in school and further their education, as well as one-sixth less likely to be convicted of a crime during high school.
