Dr. Frankel is the president/executive director of
New Start
Inc., a company that specializes in individualized treatment of multi-diagnosed individuals (traumatic brain injury/addiction/psychiatric disorders) and their families. New Start is a nationally recognized resource in the area of multi-diagnosis, providing training and consultation services to mental health and addictions treatment agencies throughout the country. Dr. Frankel assisted in developing the country's first hospital-based program for treating multi-diagnosed individuals. The program became a part of Beacon Center for Behavioral Medicine, Detroit Riverview Hospital.
Dr. Frankel has been granted the Certified Clinical Supervisor (CCS) and the Certified Addictions Counselor
(CAC II) certificates by the International Certification Consortium/Alcohol and other Drug Abuse, Inc., and the National Certified Addictions Counselor
(NCAC II) credential by the National Association of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors. He is a graduate of the Detroit Institute of Addiction Research and Training. Dr. Frankel is past president of MAADAC and past Regional Vice-President of
NAADAC, serving six states in the Mid-Central Region. He is also a Certified Employee Assistance Professional
(CEAP), certificate awarded by the Employee Assistance Certification Commission. In addition, Dr. Frankel has been awarded the Certified Compulsive Gambling Counselor
(CCGC) certificate by the American Compulsive Gambling Counselor Certification Board. Most recently, the American Academy for the Certification of Brain Injury Specialists granted Dr. Frankel the Certified Brain Injury Specialist
(CBIS) certificate. He is a member of numerous other civic and professional organizations.
His training capabilities expanded over the past few years to include areas of Gang Activity in our Communities, Workplace and Community Violence, Mentally Ill in the Workplace and extensive training on topics of Ethnic/Cultural/Racial as well as gender, age etc. etc., Diversity. His work in training the UAW-EAPs and Civil Rights representatives earned him a reputation as one of the most knowledgeable and engaging facilitators. Dr. Frankel is actively sought by many professional associations, community groups and other organizations to share his wealth of knowledge. He is well known for his enthusiasm and passion.
